Planted Detroit is an indoor, vertical hydroponic CEA (controlled environment agriculture) farm in the Islandview neighborhood of Detroit. We grow baby greens, microgreens and herbs from seed to harvest, and we harvest, pack and deliver both wholesale agricultural products as well as value-added products such as our ready-to-eat lunch salads. As a company, we are committed to providing high quality, sustainable, healthy food to our community. Planted Detroit is currently seeking applicants for a sales account manager position.


Planted Detroit is currently a small agricultural business, yet we have big dreams about feeding the world - and the ideal candidate for the account manager role holds those same ideals at heart. We grow delicious food and we love to eat what we grow; as account manager, you should be culinarily inclined, excited to share and sell our vision, and bring to the table your own experience advocating for the flavors of Detroit. The account manager is a member of our small but mighty sales team, responsible for earning and maintaining the farm’s wholesale customers. Those customers might be small to very large, restaurants, businesses, retail or wholesale - and you would be responsible for earning and growing the business with them, from order to fulfillment. Importantly, the account manager translates our current and future customer desires to other areas of the business at Planted Detroit and advocates for customer-focused solutions daily. 


The account manager hired for this role may be responsible for ordering, delivering, merchandising, and otherwise maintaining retail readiness for the customer-facing locations of a large volume client. The account manager will handle both the buyer/customer relationship, and at times, the stocking of the physical sales locations.


The ideal candidate will have a mind for business development, a knack for selling delicious and nutritious things, and see the opportunity of managing one of the largest Planted Detroit customers to date, with an eye towards growing the business. They will be an engaged team member working across departments to ensure customer satisfaction and maintaining good morale on our tight-knit and highly motivated start-up team. 


Critical aspects of the account manager role include implementing key account strategies and executing on key account planning and sales goals. This will be accomplished by one or more of the following: maintaining goodwill with the customer through excellent communication and follow-through to ensure that all of their needs are understood and addressed, including conflict resolution if necessary; delivering orders daily, stocking, cleaning, and merchandising points of sale; managing ERP sales orders for the customer including monitoring and adjusting inventory volumes and predicting/forecasting future inventory levels.


Our ideal candidate will also focus on building strong customer relationships to maintain existing business and acquire new business and/or customers. This will entail collaborating internally with Planted Detroit teams to ensure that all customers’ needs are prioritized and fulfilled, while also managing customer administrative and business duties. Those duties can include things like managing pricing and relaying suggestions for pricing adjustments to Business Development; assisting customers with promotional activities, including managing budget and merchandising as needed; and completing any paperwork or compliance needs, by liaising with the Planted Detroit team.


Lastly, the account manager will ensure to report back to Business Development and the leadership team in order to best align on sales goals for the company and strategies for execution. This might look like collecting and analyzing data around sales behavior, to understand customer needs as they evolve and advocate for the customer internally; digesting and reflecting on current events in the marketplace and suggesting key opportunities for business growth for Planted Detroit.
